The increasing use of CCTV aboard various forms of transit vehicles and at transit facilities has prompted APTA, the American Public Transportation Association, to develop a set of recommend practices to help operators identify how industry best practices are used when designing and operating surveillance systems. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also reference the new standard from APTA in their Grants and Training applications for CCTV systems to ensure that transit operators are able to plan and procure CCTV and Video Analytics systems with a better understanding of the various technical requirements needed in specifying systems for use in various transit areas of operations. The presentation, which will be made by by Dave Gorshkov, chairman of the APTA technical standards working group 1, who will provide an overview of the new standard and how it will benefit operators, users and planners of transit based CCTV systems. The standard is due to be voted on by the committee in the next few weeks and so this preview of the requirements will aid anyone currently using, or intending to use CCTV. |
